OUR HISTORY

The mustard seed that has now blossomed had its roots supplanted in the sands of time years before 1975.
My stay in Europe coincided with the rule of the then Prime Minister, Edward Heath of the Conservative Party who propelled the racist policy of ridding Britain of black Immigrants with the belief of a Better Tomorrow for the English. The slogan cut up with my husband and me and we also wished a ‘Better Tomorrow' for Nigeria back home. That was how we unconsciously adopted the Motto- ‘Educating Children for a Better Tomorrow' in Nigeria.
Done with our education in Britain and longing for a Better Tomorrow, we returned to Nigeria. I was a qualified midwife and I had also bagged a Diploma from the National Nursery Examination Board (NNEB), UK. This qualification propelled me to switch to the Education of young children.
We arrived in Nigeria in 1974. Private Nursery Education was rare by then. Apart from a School located at the site of the present Government House, there was no other Private Nursery School in the State when Auntie Rachel's Play Group sprang up at No. 4 Ngumezi (Okorodo) Street, D/line.
Starting with my daughter and children of friends, I with the help of God created an environment where children could learn through their play. In no time word went round and working mothers started asking for places for their children; AUNTY RACHEL'S PLAYGROUP was formed.
In 1983, by popular demand, we moved from rented accommodation to 41 Omasi road and later spread also to 29 Omasi road for the Nursery section. Teko Nursery received approval from the Ministry of Education, Rivers State in 1987 while the Primary received approval in 1989. With the Federal Governments introduction of the Universal Basic Education policy, Teko introduced the Junior Secondary Section in 2007.
Since then, many children have passed through the portals of Teko and over 40 years down the line those same children-Teko Ambassadors, are bringing their children back to us.
To the glory of God Almighty, TEKO has remained on the top list of successful Educational Institutions in Rivers State and Nigeria. We are blessed with and continue to boast of: Committed members of staff, Wonderful children who are thirsty for knowledge, and Parents- our learning partners, who appreciate the value of education; forming a great and powerful school community who together continue to pursue the vision of ‘A Better Tomorrow'.
